Engro Powergen Thar Private Limited (EPTL) is a pioneering energy company established in 2014 to develop a 2x330MW mine-mouth power plant in Thar Block II, Sindh that utilizes Thar’s indigenous lignite coal. It is a joint venture between Engro Energy, China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), HBL, and Liberty Mills.
EPTL achieved its Commercial Operations Date (COD) on July 10, 2019, becoming the first company in Pakistan to successfully generate and supply 660MW of electricity to the national grid using local lignite coal – a major milestone in the country’s energy independence journey.
