Shabbir Hashmi

    Shabbir Hashmi brings over 35 years of experience in project finance and private equity. At Actis Capital – one of the largest private equity investors in emerging markets – he led the firm’s operations in Pakistan. Prior to this, he managed a significant regional portfolio for CDC Group Plc, covering both Pakistan and Bangladesh.

    Earlier in his career, he held senior roles with USAID and later briefly with the World Bank in Pakistan, focusing on planning and development within the country’s energy sector.

    Over the years, Shabbir has served on more than 24 boards as a nominee director for CDC/Actis, and on 11 boards as an independent director. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of The Help Care Society, which operates K–12 schools in Lahore for underprivileged children.

    He holds a degree in engineering from Dawood College of Engineering & Technology, Pakistan, and an MBA from J.F. Kennedy University, USA. He joined the Board of Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited (EPQL) in 2010. Shabbir also serves on the boards of The Help Care Society, FINCA Microfinance Limited, and OJ Engineering Ltd.
